Jeff climbed the last few steps into the lookout tower.

"It's about time you got back!" Jason scolded.

"Sorry about that. The boss had me run a few errands before he let me go." He handed Jason a cold soda. "Here, maybe this will cool your britches."

Jason cracked open the can and drank deeply. "Ah, that is good," he said, followed by a very long and loud burp.

"Hey! Good one dude!" Jeff raised his hand to Jason for a high-five. Jeff walked around the perimeter of the look-out tower and over the tree tops for as far as the eye could see. "All quiet?" he asked.

"There's been some heat lightning, but nothing else," Jason replied just as a loud crack of thunder and bright flash of lightning split the sky.

"Holy Shit!" Jeff said. "That came out of nowhere!"

"Dry lightning. That was close." Jason grabbed his binoculars to scan the treetops.

Jeff did the same as the two rangers silently inspected the panoramic view before them.
